Adventure Begins at Your Library!

Adventure begins at your library this summer beginning May 28th! Wayne County Public Library offers a free and fun Summer Reading Club for the entire family. The more you read, the more prizes you earn! On top of that, every location hosts special summer programs and events all summer long. Don’t miss out on the fun!

Why is Summer Reading so Important?

Children who do not read during the summer may lose up to three months of reading progress and that loss has a cumulative, long-term effect. By the end of the 6th grade children who consistently lose skills over the summer will be up to two years behind their peers.

Hang in there! Summer learning loss is avoidable, and we are here to help.  Even reading just five books over the summer can help prevent learning loss. Reading just 10 – 15 minutes a day as part of your routine can increase exposure to language, and lead to increased skill development and retention. The more children read, the better their fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Visit your Library! Taking trips to the library is a fun, reading-centered activity that children love! Make regular visits and let children spend as much or as little time as they want picking out books to take home.

Join the Summer Reading Club, keep track of time spent reading and earn prizes, attend amazing programs, and have a summer of fun close to home!

How to Participate

Summer Reading Club will run from May 28 through July 27. Stop by any WCPL location at any time between those dates to pick up a reading log, or you can sign up and participate using the Beanstack App.

Children and teens log their time spent reading to earn prizes and or drawing entries at every five hours read. Adults log books read to earn drawing entries.

Reading material can come from ANYWHERE; WCPL libraries, home, comic books, audiobooks. ANY time spent reading or listening to someone read counts.

New this year for Wooster City School Students, Summer Reading Club is taking the place of the 1000 Minute Club. When you make it to 25-hours of reading you earn the library’s SRC prizes AND you get to choose a book for yourself and a friend when you return to school.

How to Earn and Win Prizes

You can find a complete list of the available prizes for children and teens here. One of the most important prizes we give away are books! Children can earn up to four free books of their choice and teens can earn up to three free books of their choice.

Reading Logs: Children and teens log time spent reading and for every five hours they read they will either earn a prize and/or a drawing entry. ANY time spent reading OR being read to counts. Yep, even babies can participate - we have prizes for them too!

Prize & Grand Prize Drawings: Children and teens earn a drawing entry for every five hours read. Children can read up to 50 hours and teens can read up to 100 hours.
